A Little Bit Of Background
Raised on a mixed variety orchard, I now live on our families 800ha sheep, cattle, cropping and forestry property in Kereru, Hawke’s Bay. Having obtained a health-related degree at Massey University in the early 90’s, I initially spent time working in the health sector until I was drawn into the world of recruitment. Married to Syd, we have two sons in their 20’s who have established their own careers within the primary sector. I’m passionate about New Zealand’s primary sector and excited by the career opportunities for people relating to food and fibre – it’s such an innovative and technology-driven industry!
What’s Important To Me
People and their wellbeing are central to what’s most important to me. I was once told ‘your health is your wealth’ and this is something I try to keep front of mind. In my work I love supporting the team as we deliver the best recruitment & HR services to employers and job seekers across the primary sector supply chain. People are at the heart of what we do every day.
What Happens Out Of Work
Typically, it’s about family, friends, farming, fishing, and gardening. I love getting stuck into a bit of physical work or having a day out on the water. Recently, the travel bug has hit and with many countries yet to explore this has become high on my list of priorities.
Some Of My Learnings
The days can be long but the years are short! 2025 marks Rural Direction’s 20-year anniversary and I’m proud knowing I have played a key role in developing the business, having been involved since it was founded in 2005. I am passionate about primary industry people, business success and helping job seekers to thrive in their chosen careers. Holding a leadership role at Rural Directions and working with a fabulous team has made the 20 years fly on by!!
