MINIMUM WAGE IS INCREASING ON 1 APRIL 2025. ARE YOU READY?
March 2025

The details of the increase are:
- Adult minimum wage will go up from $23.15 to $23.50 per hour.
- Starting-out and training minimum wage will go up from $18.52 to $18.80 per hour.
- All rates are before tax and any lawful deductions, for example, PAYE tax, student loan repayment, child support.
How to prepare for the increases:
- Update your Payroll Systems to ensure new rates are relevant.
- Advise the team – Reach out to your minimum-wage employees to inform them about their new wage rate and issue a variation letter to keep things current. Check to see if any employees are due to move to the adult minimum wage if currently on the starting out or training minimum wage.
- Check for employee pay relativity – Be mindful of how these changes could affect the broader pay dynamics within your business. This could include considering how employees are paid compared to each other and keeping in mind employees on higher wages may want to negotiate a pay increase to keep the relative difference.
